1. Entering the startup menu
Enjoy the Lenovo logo when powering on your new laptop for the first time...
Tip:
Click on the screenshots to see them in full size.
The startup menu has a timeout of 15 seconds and will automatically start the default boot option (typically the preinstalled Windows system).
Optional:
Press Enter to pause the startup menu.
2. Entering the BIOS
Conditional:
Depending on the factory defaults of your laptop you may be asked for the BIOS password.
3. Loading BIOS default settings
Press Enter again to confirm loading setup defaults.
Rational:
Loading the default options will revert (almost) all options to a know good state.
Subsequently only a few changes need to be done and are documented below.
4. Configuring network items
Press Enter to confirm disabling.
Rational:
For privacy and security reasons we do not recommend to boot untrusted ressources from the Internet.
5. Configuring USB items
Press Enter to confirm enabling.
Rational:
Enabling this allows your laptop to act as a powerbank by continueing to charge e.g. mobile phones when the laptop is powered off.
6. Configuring keyboard/mouse items
Press Enter to confirm enabling.
Rational:
Swapping Fn
and Ctrl
Keys increases space between Ctrl
and Alt
for improved ergonomics.
Press Enter to confirm enabling.
Rational:
Leaving this disabled
would require to always press Fn
for F
keys which is ergonomically bad.
